Jonas Herman, Herman Studio

Jonas Herman, Herman Studio, is the designer behind the main collection for Form & Refine and the mind behind many defining pieces in the Form & Refine universe. In his studio, every object begins as an idea, a curiosity, a question about how form, material, and function can come together. Each piece emerges from experimentation, careful observation, and a dialogue between hand, mind, and material. It is in this space of exploration that his designs take shape.

As he explains:  “The design and rethinking of the load-bearing construction form the core of my practice. In this process, dialogue provides an essential trial-and-error dynamic that holds the potential for discovery and learning.”

His design process begins with the detailed study of construction methods, an approach which plays a central role throughout the design process. He work in an iterative process between sketches, models, and prototypes, making the workshop an essential and natural extension of his studio. 

Chairs hold a special place in his work; they are, in his words, a “forever love.” Though complex to design and construct, chairs exemplify how experience, craftsmanship, technique, and knowledge converge in meaningful solutions. 

Jonas draws inspiration from everyday life and basic human needs, creating furniture that is not only functional but aestetic. His philosophy demonstrates that design is a careful negotiation between material, structure, and purpose — producing objects that endure, enrich living spaces, and inspire daily life.
